Port-au-Prince, Haiti - In a shocking turn of events, Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated in a brutal nighttime attack on July 7, 2021. The 53-year-old president was reportedly shot dead inside his home in the Pelerin 5 neighborhood in the hills above Port-au-Prince.

According to reports, a group of assailants stormed the president's residence at around 0100 local time. Moïse's wife, Martine Moïse, was also reportedly injured in the attack and was taken to a local hospital. The motive and identity of the attackers remain unknown at this time.
