White Sox Fire Manager Pedro Grifol

After Dismal Start

Team Moves to End Disastrous Season

CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have fired manager Pedro Grifol, ending a disastrous tenure that saw the team plummet to the bottom of the American League standings.

Grifol, 53, was hired in November 2022 to replace Tony La Russa, who retired after a disappointing 81-81 season. But the White Sox struggled mightily under Grifol, finishing with an abysmal 89-190 record in his only season at the helm.

The White Sox's firing of Grifol comes as no surprise. The team has been in a tailspin since the start of the season, losing 13 of its first 15 games and never recovering. Grifol's managerial decisions were often questioned, and he was widely criticized for his handling of the team's pitching staff.

With the White Sox now out of contention for a playoff berth, general manager Rick Hahn made the decision to fire Grifol. The team will name an interim manager in the coming days.
