LATAM Amerigol Cup Opens in South Florida
Latin America's Biggest Golfer Invasion Begins Today
The battleground is set for the second annual Amerigol LATAM Cup, featuring 60 of the best male and female professional and amateur golfers from Latin America and the Caribbean.
The 54-hole stroke-play competition tees off Monday, November 7 and runs through Wednesday, November 9. It will be played on the par-72, 7,452-yard Heron Course at the Grande Lakes Orlando Resort. The tournament is free and open to the public.
The field includes 12 of the top 15 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), as well as several top professionals. The event boasts the largest purse in Latin American amateur golf history, with $325,000 on the line.
The defending champions are Mexico's Maria Fassi and Argentina's Alejandro Tosti. Fassi is the top-ranked female amateur in the world, while Tosti is No. 4 in the WAGR.
This year’s field also includes several rising stars, such as 14-year-old Colombian Juan Sebastian Muñoz and 15-year-old Venezuelan Vanessa Gilly. Muñoz is the youngest player to ever win a professional golf tournament, while Gilly is the No. 1-ranked female junior golfer in the world.
